These are multifunctional routes for non-motorized traffic or for travelers by foot, running along natural corridors and historic trade routes. These routes are coordinated by local communities to promote sustainable tourism and healthy lifestyle. Greenways are the basis for the implementation of local social initiatives and projects related to nature and landscape protection, cultural heritage conservation, eco-tourism and environmentally friendly transport. Greenways meet the needs of locals and travelers alike, contributing to the recovery of the local economy.
These are greenways, running across the basins of the Dnipro and the Desna rivers with their numerous tributaries, lakes and swamps. The destination is formed within three environmental objects: Zalissia National Nature Park, Mizhrichynskyi Regional Landscape Park and Nature Park Beremytske. Also on the territory of the destination is the largest Ukrainian river island – Lyubychiv, museums, including the Oster Local History Museum, the Wild Cats Museum, the Forest Crafts Museum, the Ukrainian Rushnyk Museum (Rushnyk = Eastern Slavic ritual cloth), the Military Glory Museum of the 169 Desna Military Training Center, as well as historic sacral buildings, including St. George’s Cathedral, Cathedral of the Blessed Mother Nativity, the Danivka St. George’s Nunnery, and the Three Saints Church, which are the architectural monuments of various eras.
- Hiking (there are eco-trails on the territory, and a number of attractive tourism areas in need of fitting out);
- Rafting (the Desna River has fast currents, indented and scenic banks, many areas promising for fitting out of camping grounds and tourist sites);
- Historic (a large number of architectural monuments from different historic periods from the Neolithic to the present);
- Bicycle touring (low traffic on the roads and high density of tourist sites, provided of the roadway repair, will create favorable conditions for the development of this tourism type);
- Birdwatching (the diversity of ornithofauna species on different biotopes and low noise background create favorable conditions for this type of tourism);
- Equestrian tourism (developing on the territory of the Beremytske Nature Park);
The project is being implemented on the initiative of Beremytske Nature Park and Greenways Ukraine with the support of the Department of Culture and Tourism, Nationalities and Religions of Chernihiv Regional State Administration. We are glad of any assistance in the development of the project, and we want to involve the largest possible audience to develop the tourist destination. Representatives of tourism business, stakeholders, local history experts, photographers, bloggers, designers and anyone with ideas for tourism development in the region are welcome to join this project.
