Moose can get to the Red Book

The nature advocates and volunteers are seriously concerned about the significant decrease in the moose population. They announced this to the Deputy Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of Ukraine Vasily Poluiko.

At a meeting with environmentalists, Poluiko said about organization of scientific researches to determine the exact number of these animals on the territory of Ukraine. In Ministry of Natural Resources also appealed to the National Commission on Red Book to add the moose to animals which need a protection.

Poluiko added that the organization of monitoring is important for ending disputes over the inclusion of this animal to endangered species.

The study will be funded by budget of the Ministry.

At the beginning of the year, moose hunting was banned in Ukraine. The ban will last at least 25 years.
